From idea to blog<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Everything starts with an idea, and so does this blog. A few months ago, I got the idea to start a blog about photography, nature and hiking. Things that I personally enjoy and get energy from. Upcoming blogs will also be about these but this first one is about the road from idea to my first blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are you starting a blog?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a question I have asked myself several times but was also asked by others. And thankfully so, because this forced me to think carefully about this and what I wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I wrote above, I get a lot of pleasure out of taking photos but then what do you do with them? Instagram is fun but fleeting and is not a place where you go and talk about the photo and\/or the hike you made, whereas I wanted to. Besides, I personally find it very fun and educational to read various blogs about hiking and photography.\u00a0 That all adds up to why I started the blog\/site; to be able to tell my story behind my photos and, by doing so, to deal with photography in a different way, to learn from it and hopefully to do others a favour as well.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then the implementation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have made a few websites in the past, so I didn't really mind the technical part. The real challenge turned out to be finding a name for the site, the logo and design. Because what are you going to emphasise; (nature) photography, hiking, nature or just the stories that go with it. A lot of names came along (with help) before I got to Naturetc. (pronounced nature et cetera). This clearly indicates my intention with the site; nature as a common thread in the subjects but also more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that I had the name, I could move on to the logo and applying for the domain name. I created the logo in Pixelmator Pro. After much fiddling with pixels, vectors and different designs, I had a logo I was happy with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applying for the domain (naturetc.nl<\/a>) was rather difficult at first, on two occasions the application was cancelled without reason. So..., on to another hosting provider and there, with the same details, everything was settled within half an hour.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I could now start building the website. To make things easier for myself, I had ordered a 'Wordpress theme'. Such a 'theme' already contains a lot of technology and design, but I had slightly overestimated what I had to change myself to get it the way I wanted it. Think of the menu structures, design of the blogs and gallery and especially: what do I show and what do I leave out. I found it very instructive to dive into this and when it works, it's extra fun!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The basis of the site is there now, but I'm not ready yet. Of course I'm going to throw myself into writing fun, interesting and informative blogs and taking beautiful photos.
